"Serving Alameda County Medical Center" May/June 2008

Dear Valued Donor,

Cherlyn SpencerAs we reach the end of our fiscal year, June 30, 2008, the Foundation is proud of its accomplishments through our partnership with our donors and the community at large. To date, we have raised $1.1 million.

The Foundation’s emphasis for May/June is the Angiography Suite Acquisition Campaign with a goal of $2.6 million. We have already contributed and raised approximately $680,000. The project consists of renovating one of the fifth-floor operating rooms into the Angiogram Suite. This renovation is expected to take up to 18 months. We anticipate completion by December 2009 with installation of the equipment. The Foundation’s campaign will end October 2009. You still have an opportunity to join our campaign by volunteering and/or by making a donation. We are very excited to bring this much-needed project to ACMC.

A major site visit took place on Monday, May 12, 2008 for a potential grant of $1 million from a local foundation. Board of Directors is 100/% pledging.

As we continue to move forward to complete our year, we are excited about our 18th Annual Gala--June 7. Already we are expecting over 350 guests in support of our honorees and mission. It will be a great evening, so please make sure you are in attendance.

On another note, when I think of all that has occurred around us, I thought about the importance of giving; and I found this article. A new study helps explain an irony of modern times: increasing wealth. Psychologists found the greatest joys of all can be attained by giving money away (Elizabeth Dunn).

It confirms that those who have a generous spirit and altruistic instinct for helping others live happier and longer lives. If you haven’t had an opportunity to give this year, try it.

Sincerely

Cherlyn L. Spencer, MSW
Executive Director
